AFTER HOURS

Now that school is out and the sun stays up really, really late, our only quiet time seems to land at the end of very long days of in/out, up/down, on/off—when parental energy levels are hovering just above zero.

And as much as Netflix served me well during the long, cold winter...it continues to find a place in my heart now that summer is here.

JB and I have been meeting wherever we can find an empty room around 10 o'clock each night, and then we swear we will watch one, just one episode of a show. We've been mixing things up as a way to drag out the newest season of Orange Is The New Black (which is amazing), because we definitely have a tendency to binge watch the good ones. For every one episode of OITNB, we watch two episodes of Lost (yes, we are one of the few people on earth who didn't watch Lost the first time around).

FridayNightLights

The last series we burned through together was Friday Night Lights, and y'all know how much I loved that one. Oh Timmy. Lost was a slower start for us, but we're definitely committed to seeing these characters through their backstories—which is an element of OITNB that we really enjoy, too.

When the heat has gone to our heads, and the mess has risen to a height that feels like it surpasses our knees, sometimes the best thing for us to do is retreat to separate corners for alone time.

In my corner, I'm making my way through Nashville (a nice way to hang onto FNL a little while longer) while JB is really enjoying the contemporary version of Sherlock.

Sherlock

I hope you find your quiet/alone time and spend it whatever way you need to for a recharge. If your summer is about to be anything like mine, we're all going to need it. If you're watching a good show on Netflix, I'd love to hear about it, please share!

{GIVEAWAY}: I'M TAKING YOU TO THE SHOW!

It's highly probable that I'm sleep-writing this post. Because waking hours are very hard to come by this time of year. I am a shiny, silver ball that's lost inside a 24-hour pinball machine. If you're looking for me, I'm just out chasing my head.

It sneaks up every single year, doesn't it? The well-intentioned pile of thank you cards that I've been meaning to get the kids started on—they mock me. But the kids aren't home either—recitals, play dates, bike riding, end-of-year parties, backyard pools, and playgrounds. And the feeding, laundry and sunscreen slatering that comes with it...well, you know what I'm talking about. You're doing it too!

So let's call a time out together. Put it all down and come with me to the movies. Take your mom, your sister, a friend. Heck, be a pal and grab a harried mom off the blacktop at your kids' school.

Wordsandpictures

I have several pairs of tickets to give away for a new romantic drama starring Academy Award nominee Clive Owen and Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche, called Words and Pictures. It opens in theatres July 4th, and it looks like the perfect way to spend two hours in the dark, hovering over a buttery bag of popcorn.

If you think you can sneak away and turn off your smart phone (so they can't find you) on June 25th, leave me a comment below and you'll be entered to have a pair of tickets emailed to you.

This is a national contest, so I'm looking at you: Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Halifax.

Toronto - The Varsity
Vancouver - Fifth Avenue
Victoria - Cineplex Odeon Victoria
Calgary - Cineplex Eau Claire
Edmonton - Cineplex North Edmonton
Winnipeg - Cineplex SilverCity Polo Park
Ottawa - Cineplex Odeon South Keys
Halifax - Cineplex Bayers Lake

+++++++++++++

 Thank you for the generous gift District PR

{GIVEAWAY}: Unexpected Hero

The sun finally came out over the weekend, and although there was still a chill in the air, we soaked up every drop. We were lucky to have my nephews here for a visit, which made all the kids-being-kids stuff so much more fun.

Cousinstwo

After they had dirtied their knees and brightened their cheeks, they came tumbling inside looking for food and downtime. We settled on a family show that would please the diverse crowd (three girls, three boys ages 3-12) and found it in the brand new Netflix exclusive Turbo FAST

Cousinsone

Turbo is an unexpected hero. He's a slow-moving snail with a lot of gusto and a giant heart. He's the spirit I love to see in my own children. Life in a big family means team work is a given. It's always reassuring to watch my kids identify with a character who understands the value of depending on and being there for others.

TURBO

This crowd-pleaser is now available exclusively on Netflix and I'm thrilled to be offering a Turbo-inspired GIVEAWAY to all my readers.

+++++++++++++

One randomly selected winner will receive:

a six-month subscription to Netflix

(for those with existing subscriptions, you will receive a code to add on to extend your current subscription)

and a party kit with Turbo FAST swag and popcorn (of course!).

+++++++++++++

Leave me a comment below and let me know what you're watching on Netflix

(y'all KNOW what I've been watching).

I'll choose my lucky winner on April 18th!
